In the Spring of 2020, police murdered George Floyd in Minneapolis by kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. A bystander was able to capture the disturbing event on video and once it was posted online, it spread like wildfire. Almost immediately, the United States found itself in the midst of protests unlike anything since the Civil Rights Movement. Millions upon millions took to the streets across the country demanding accountability and police reform. The protests lasted for months, they dominated every news cycle and radicalized a contingent of the young population who otherwise would have remained unpolitical. Though not much direct legislative change came from the movement, BLM was able to reignite the conversation around race in America which will hopefully prove helpful in the ongoing struggle for equality. These photographs were taken at protests in Chicago, Illinois and Miami, Florida.
